Lt Col. Stephen (Sam) Brown

Today we said goodbye to the late Sam Brown (03.11.1947 – 10.07.2025) at a service held at the Salisbury Crematorium.  Large numbers of friends, associates and family attended and the venue was overflowing with those wishing to pay their final respects – including a large contingent representing The Probus Club of Salisbury.

The service was conducted by the Venerable Stephen Robbins CB QHC, former Chaplain General of the British Army, and currently chaplain to the Bishop of Salisbury.

Sam’s daughters delivered some upbeat anecdotal memories of a loving father and grandpa as testament to their late father’s devotion to family.

Professionally Sam is remembered for his achievements as Lt Col. Stephen (Sam) Brown in the royal Corps of Engineers and for his subsequent charitable works with SAFFA and the Citizens Advice Bureau where his organisational skills were put to good use in assisting veterans in need.

Sam joined Probus in 2023.  On first acquaintance he presented quite an aloof military persona and it is said that Sam did not suffer fools gladly!  But I came to know a warm and humble human being who was most likeable, knowledgeable and humorous.  Above all he was a genuine and sincere guy who would help others in a heartbeat.

He will be missed greatly by all those that he befriended at Probus over a relatively short space of time.  Our thoughts are with his wife, Sally and his family.
